Upgrade Your Guitar’s Tone and Performance
Looking to upgrade your guitar’s tone and performance? Our CTS 500k pot split shaft potentiometers are the perfect choice for serious players and builders. These custom pots are designed with precision and reliability in mind, making them ideal for both tone and volume controls in electric guitars. Whether you’re a hobbyist or a professional luthier, these pots deliver consistent, high-quality performance.
Key Features
- 500k Ohm resistance: The gold standard for humbucker pickups, ensuring clarity and warmth in your tone.
- ±10% Tolerance: Guarantees precise performance so you can achieve the exact sound you’re after.
- Audio Taper: Provides smooth volume and tone transitions, mimicking natural human hearing.
- Crystal Clear Stamping: Easily identify resistance and taper without needing additional tools or reference charts.
- Standard Friction Rotation: Keeps your settings secure during performances or adjustments.
Physical Fit
These pots feature a split, 24-tooth fine-knurled shaft (.236" diameter) that fits standard US knobs (not import knobs). The short shaft (3/8" solid brass bushing) is perfect for control plate setups and thinner top woods, including Telecasters, Stratocasters, SGs, and thinner Les Paul models.
Each pot includes installation hardware: two nuts, a dress washer, and a lock washer for a secure fit. They require a 3/8" (9.5mm) diameter mounting hole for proper installation.
Before Purchasing
Ensure your guitar has compatible mounting holes; import guitars may require reaming or drilling to fit these pots. Note that the short shaft design is slightly taller than some 1/4" bushing pots, adding versatility for various guitar models. An extra hex nut is included to help you adjust the height during installation.

They work well and feel good
Don’t let the negative reviews discourage you from buying these. I was a bit concerned after reading negative reviews for these potentiometers. But these were a vast upgrade from the cheep pots that where originally in my guitar. The price is a bit high but worth it. The people complaining about breaking these in the process must be inexperienced. I had no issues installing these and the 2 out of the 4 that I installed worked perfectly. I love how they are big pots so there is plenty of room to solder both on the back and on the lungs. Overall, I am very pleased with these and will be buying them again in the future!
I almost always use CTS pots! There are a few occasions when I don't, and that is simply because the cavity won't let me use full sized pots...and that is a very rare occasion! These just work!
Perfect replacement pots. Note: If installing in an import guitar, (mainly a Les Paul style) you will most likely need to expand the hole in the wood.
Working great in my strat
